Todd Smith Switches Sides
That colder that usual feeling you got when you walked out of your house this morning, that was hell freezing over. After spending the better part of the last five years terrorizing Speaker Craddick and his leadership team, Republican State House Member Todd Smith has finally subscribed to the “if you can’t beat them, join them” mode of thought.
This is a devastating blow to the insurgency hoping to pry the gavel from Speaker Craddick’s hand. Needless to say, it’s been a long few months. First they lose Fred Hill, Mike Krusee, and Robert Talton to retirements from the House. Then Pat Haggerty and Buddy West lost in their respective primaries. Now the few Republican dissenters that are left are starting to peel away.
This move only further echos the notion that Speaker Craddick has a lock on staying Speaker Craddick. That certain 3rd term guy out of Hays County, yeah, he’s back doubled over the toilet. Heck, he probably never left.
