Donna Howard on Johnston High - “Congratulations”
And she didn’t mean it in a sarcastic way either. In her AAS editorial, Rep. Donna Howard offers her sincere congratulations to Johnston high and says that the problem is not the school system, but the state. In doing so she goes into a snoozer of and explanation of the state’s accountability system and then goes on to say that Johnston High was showing progress, the school just needed more time.
Uh, five years wasn’t enough, Donna? How much longer would you have had our students go through a high school that wasn’t meeting the state’s accountability measures?
Now, I agree with Ms. Howard in that what happened to Johnston High was unfortunate, but also necessary. What point is there in having accountability standards if no one is to be held accountable? This is what governing is about, making difficult choices with the betterment of our state in mind and not giving in to a bleeding heart.
Ms. Howard can preach all she wants (is Johnston High even in her district?) and pretend to be a member of the House Education Committee until her heart is content. But her words and posturing only remind me of one thing, that there is a perfectly good reason why voters of Eanes ISD booted her off their school board and also why she couldn’t win a seat on the State Board of Education.
So, Ms. Howard, the problem lies with the state, you say? Well, I guess that makes you part of the problem. Welcome to the lege.
