BOR Is Making Me Look Like I Know What I Am Talking About
And I thank them for that, truly I do. In this game we call blogging, a new guy like me can use all the creditability he can muster. Enter BOR and their attempts to help out poor ‘ole little me.
You might remember my about-face with BOR, in which I made an unofficial pledge to be more polite to those who may disagree with my personal thoughts. That may be, but do not for once second construe that as me turning the deaf ear to blatant bad/shameful commentary that purposefully ignores the facts in hopes that a false message may be born. In case you did think that I was permanently looking the other way (like BOR), let this be a cruel lesson in otherwise.
Much as I predicted, liberal bloggers have tried to paint Republican attempts to reach out to third party candidates as Republicans suppressing voter choice. Never mind that no one is questioning the legitimacy of Libertarian candidates this fall, Republicans are still playing dirty in the eyes of others by trying to reach out to other candidates and build coalitions of support instead of opposition. Who ever heard of such talk?
I first shared this prediction with you on August 3, and in following suit, Matt Glazer wrote a post on August 5 that played right into my prediction. Seriously, Matt, don’t be so predictable yourself. I won’t call you an idiot, but I will say that I have no other choice than to severely question your mental capacity.
Funny thing is that if Matt’s 8/5 post would have only included his opinion that Republicans have a blatant disregard toward Texas voters, I would have left it alone. He has his opinion and I have mine. In this case, we would simply have to agree to disagree. But, my dear friend Matt(and by friend I mean someone I would not help change a flat tire on the side of the road) crossed the line when he blatantly mis-represented a quote from a Statesman article in hopes that it would construe the situation in favor of his message.
Matt’s post, which centered on the theme that Republicans are up to no good in order to silence voter choice in Texas, included this bold statement followed by an excerpt from the AAS:
The scary thing is that it has worked in at least one high profile race.
The only Libertarian candidate to drop off the ballot in Central Texas so far is Alan Hultgren, who was running against state Rep. Valinda Bolton, D-Austin, and Republican Donna Keel.
Wow, pretty powerful example of the shameful practice of Republicans suppressing voter choice, if you ask me. Except there is one problem. The Libertarian in HD 47 dropped out because of personal reasons and not because of any influence elsewhere. Says the candidate himself - in the exact same article -
“I can honestly say there was no external pressure.” - Alan Hultgren on dropping out of his race.
Now, I have been told before that I need to more closely read what I link up to, but seriously, BOR, WTF? Are you now openly in the business of mis-reporting stories?
To boil it down for you, BOR has blatantly mis-represented Mr. Hultgren’s reasons for dropping out of his race, and in doing so, ignored his direct quote on the subject, all in hopes of leading us into a false understanding.
Really, Matt? You’re better than that. At least I thought you were…hoped you were…imagined you were.
Come to think of it, maybe you’re not. Maybe instead you are what gives bloggers a bad name.
